Potential...Why didn't they focus on this earlier? I guess M$ Natal lit a fire under Sony's ass...This tech is cool. You add this with their Wiimote rip off, and I believe you can make some incredible titles.
You compare game sales, and reviews then the peanut gallery goes up in arms. What benchmark do you guys use to say those engine are better than UE 3? MT Framework is amazing without a doubt. Yet, how do you take anything away from Epic and UE 3 to make your point? What criteria do you guys define a successful engine by? If it includes fun games, diversity, etc then what engine this generation does that? Have you spit puddles seen "Shadow Complex". What an ugly same ole, same game th...
Comparing games like Uncharted 2, and Killzone 2 which take years to create one game on versus an engine that many games are based on. Most of which show how powerful and diverse the UE 3 is. It's like people want to use four year development cycles to tell us how great a game looks as opposed to playing. We got two Gears title in less time than Gurriella was able to get Killzone 2 out. I'm sorry that doesn't prove the engine is great or powerful. It just means those guys had a hell of lot ti...
On crack. I had no idea what engine those Natal games were using, and it didn't matter. The fact that the actions on screen were being controlled in a way we never saw was the story. This is why the Unreal Engine is used so widely, because you can create games that you want to make. It's fleixable enough for that and it's proven. What is actually bad about the engine?
Again this comes down to the hater brigade, that can't see something they don't like actually be something worth...
Is in the games. There have been more, and better overall games using the engine. Making a developers life, which is difficult a bit better to manage. Especially when you are talking about the power, architecture, and technology of these systems.
If you are a PS3 fan who has a problem with the Unreal Engine 3 I believe you have to look at Sony. They built the PS3, they made it what it is. I was just playing Gears 2 yesterday, and nay sayers are crazy. Doesn't matter if they are ...
Let this game have some depth, and have it's own magic. Gearbox has worked on enough FPS games to do the IP's justice. I'm just on the fence a bit because there are very few games that are good, and this is AvP is one of those properties that should be a dominant force in gaming. It has all the elements like a Halo, Half-life, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, etc.
This is not Halo 3 development on early Xbox 360 dev kits. Nope, they've had time to evaluate the hardware and get up to speed. So having an engine that takes advantage of the system from the ground is just common sense.
Bungie has more than earned the right to say what their game goals will try to be. Until otherwise proven, their track record speaks for itself, and Reach is going to be a beast.
This being an interesting prediction. I believe in many respects Microsoft is not worried about Japan anymore. It's pretty obvious that the county and it's gamers have a bias towards an American gaming company. It's way too late to say that this is not true anymore. The Xbox 360 has games that from rpg's to a myriad of games that the audience can get into. At this point they don't want to really put their yen behind Microsoft. It's Nationalistic period...
RIP Michael Jackson....and my condolences to the Jackson family.
It hurts, but God is love, and your music was also...Thanks MJ
Great convo you guys. I'm in favor of Sony working with Intel to get Larrabee up on the next PS system. The reason is that Intel has done a ton of work, and the Cell chip in many ways is still in it's infancy with it's potential application. Sony could mature elements of what they have done with the PS3 tech/architecture, and work with Intel...
People are going to have to accept the fact that the PS3 is just not a great platform to develop for with limited resources. A developer has to have a heavy investment into the hardware if they are going to blow us away. We've seen it with Uncharted, Killzone 2, MGS4. It takes years to get the games to high quality. Many developers are not built like that. Even if they have a dedicated multi-platform engine. That's just the reality.
It's no longer worth paying attention to when f...
